Sidney “Sid” Clarence Lewis, resident of Durant, Oklahoma for 82 years, passed away on June 11, 2022, in Denison, Texas surrounded by his family. He was born on March 30, 1940, in Utica, Oklahoma to Clarence “Pete” Roosevelt Lewis and Ida Lorene (Sallee) Lewis. Sidney married the love of his life, Jane Roberts, in Durant, Oklahoma on July 23, 1960.
Sidney served the United States in the Army National Guard. He loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and reading his Bible. Sidney began Lewis Electric in 1961. He worked many years as an electrical contractor, then expanded the business to include insulation and garage doors and later worked on electrical gate openers. He was a member of the Durant Church of Christ.
Those left behind to cherish Sidney’s memory are his wife of 62 years, Jane Lewis of Durant, Oklahoma. Children including daughter, Shelley Lewis of Durant, Oklahoma; son, Clay Lewis and Amanda Cox of Durant, Oklahoma; son, Grady Lewis and wife Christa Lewis of Monroe, Louisiana. Four grandchildren including grandson, Preston Lewis and granddaughter, Landry Lewis of Durant, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Avilyn Lewis and grandson, Mac Lewis of Monroe, Louisiana. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Chavers of Atoka, Oklahoma and brother-in-law, Ron McDonald of Calera, Oklahoma, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sidney is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence “Pete” Roosevelt Lewis, and Ida Lorene (Sallee) Lewis; brothers, Cecil “John” Lewis, and Charles “Sonny” Lewis; sisters, Clytie Jo Gunkel, Bonnie Anglin, and Laurel McDonald.
Family hour will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the Durant Church of Christ with Minister Logan Cates officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Arty Page, Tate Thomas, Jason Earles, Teddy Clements, Bob Clift, Ron Jones, John Freeman, Dale Goad, and Pat Ashley.
