Rose Etta (Sanders) Hughes passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on March 6, 1937, to John Richard and Dessie Lou (Conaster) Sanders. She married the love of her life, Marvin Hughes in 1964 and they celebrated 59 years of marriage until his passing on May 20, 2023.
Rose retired from nursing after working in the field for 35 years. She loved to sew and quilt, and she was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma. She loved her kids, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. One of her favorite names was being called Grandma.
Left behind to cherish Rose’s memory are her children, daughter Venita Nutter (Rick Motsenbocker) of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and son Richard Hughes of Wellston, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren include Derek Nutter and wife Kemisha, Brittni Hughes, Jacob Hughes, and Natasha Hughes, great grandchildren include Hudson Nutter, Kyson Despain, and Miya Nutter. She is also survived by her two brothers Willie Sanders of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and Johnny Ray Sanders of Casa Grande, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Rose in death are her parents John and Dessie, husband Marvin Hughes, son Tony Hughes, grandson Chance Nutter, sisters Linna Mae Gordon and Violet Radden, and two brothers Roy Edwards Sanders and Franklin Dee Sanders.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 2:00pm at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma with Brother Anthony Williams officiating7. Burial will immediately follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Armstrong, Oklahoma.
