Mary Lou Ledford joined her husband in glory on July 27, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born in Durant, Oklahoma, on September 24, 1930 to parents Smith and Laura (Featherston) Barnett. She was the oldest, and only surviving member of five siblings.
Mary Lou made her home in Durant, Oklahoma for most of her life. She married David Eugene (Gene) Ledford on August 4, 1950. She and Eugene spent the early years of their marriage in Durant as well as El Paso, Texas, as she followed Eugene to El Paso when he was drafted to the Army. They briefly lived in Peabody, Kansas, and then returned to Durant.
Mary Lou never had trouble finding a job. She worked in the banking field, the accounting field, and for the majority of her career, in the medical field, as the assistant for several doctors in Durant. She continued to work for her favorite doctors (part time) even into her 80’s. She loved her job, and she loved her employers.
In addition to always having a full-time job, Mary Lou was a preacher’s wife. She enjoyed being a part of the Fillmore Nazarene Church for over 50 years. Lifelong relationships were made during their years at Fillmore.
Mary Lou is survived by her two children, Tami Tuel (Jerry) of Stockton, California, and David Ledford of Durant. She was loved by her seven grandchildren, Jared Stanglin (Leslie), Bret Ledford (Danielle), Justin Ledford (Crystal), Matthew Stanglin, Brandon Ledford (Janna), Natalie McKeegan (Patrick), and Amanda Ledford, and numerous great grandchildren. She dearly loved each and every one.
Mary Lou and Eugene were able to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary prior to Eugene’s death in November 2020. Shortly after his passing, she moved to California, where she enjoyed trips to the ocean, family gatherings in the back yard, Monday night Bible study, and made many more friends.
Mary Lou was a woman of great faith, a diligent prayer warrior. She dearly loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. She was a very strong woman and leaves an everlasting legacy.
