Leta Webster

Leta Fern Webster was born October 27, 1928 to Robert E. Palmer and Leatha P. (Reddick) Palmer at Lookeba, Oklahoma.  She was raised by her mother and stepfather Jay Hawkins in a blended family of nine children.  From her first marriage to Vincent Coffey, she had two children.  Leta married Ray Webster on September 19, 1952.  He passed away October 3, 2008.  On November 21, 2009, she married Von “Bud” Mulkey.  Bud passed away on August 6, 2014.

Leta worked as a Deputy Court Clerk, legal secretary, and secretary in Anadarko, Oklahoma until an opportunity arose to buy Junior Fashions in Durant in the summer of 1970.  For the next approximately 15 years, Webster Junior Fashions clothed many children in Durant and the surrounding area.  For a generation of children, Leta knew almost all of them and knew what clothes each one would like or refuse to wear.  Even into the time shortly before her death, people would see her and mention that they either bought clothes for their children or wore clothes from the store.  Her last work was as a Deputy County Treasurer for Bryan County.

Leta loved traveling and went on many cruises, but loved long driving trips as well.  She and Ray square-danced, were in bridge clubs, played golf, camped, and fished.  With Bud, she continued to travel and listened to music.  Bud was able to convince her to do karaoke in public, even though she swore she could not carry a tune in a bucket.  She always had her love of arts and crafts.  She continued to play card games with grandchildren and friends until a few days before her passing.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Durant where she had served as a Deacon and later as an Elder.  She was very proud of a program she led called “Go Getters” for older church members and friends to have monthly outings and game nights.

Leta is preceded in death by her parents, by Ray Webster, Bud Mulkey, brothers and sisters Ferrell Hawkins, Norman Hawkins, Juanita Dorsey, Velma Oliver, Jean McDaniels, Lavell Crain, Bob Palmer, Bernadine Glenn, great-grandson Hunter Anderson, great-granddaughter Cassandra Roberts, and great-great grandson Shilo Schubert.  She is survived by son Terrell Coffey and his wife Carol of Hinton, Oklahoma, daughter Connie Moore and her husband Robert of Edmond, Oklahoma, son Tim Webster and his wife Leslie of Durant, Oklahoma.  The children of Bud Mulkey, daughter Jan Nanny and husband Mark, daughter Cyndi Lilley, daughter Randa Dowling and husband Jim Dowling, son Daryl Mulkey and wife Shannon. Grandchildren are Chris Coffey, Lance Coffey, Jami Majors, Staci Burrows, Ashli Anderson, Kerry Collins, and Brody Webster.  Great Grandchildren are Zachary Coffey, Caitlin Coffey, Cord Coffey, Maci Majors, Reagan Majors, Blair Majors, Nick Borynack, Mitchell Borynack, Baylie Anderson, Ryli Anderson, Landon Christly, Kirsten Collins, Brock Webster, and Grant Webster and 5 great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by brother-in-law Don Glenn, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, the family of Bud Mulkey, who she considered her family, and many other dear friends. 

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church of Durant.
