James (Jim) Arthur Kelly passed from this life on September 23, 2021, in Denison, Texas at the age of 84. He was born on June 3, 1937, in Homestead, Pennsylvania to James Arthur and Kathleen Mary (Stark) Kelly. He married the love of his life, Karen Clift, on July 29, 2006, in Long Beach, California.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army and was Captain from 1957 – 1963. While in the Army, he was also an Army Ranger and Green Beret, and received many awards including two silver stars and a bronze star. After retiring from the Army, Jim went on to become a building engineer and lay chaplain for nursing homes. He was a member of the Masons and Shriner and was known as the clown “Sunny Jim”. Some of his hobbies include watching CNN, watching the neighbors walk by the house, going to Choctaw Casino, and eating at the local restaurants in Durant. Jim loved all animals, especially George and Gracie, his pappion dogs who were his constant companions.
Left behind to cherish Jim’s memory are his loving wife of 15 years, Karen, of the home, a daughter, Mary Norman and Scott of Calera, Oklahoma, and a son, James Kelly of Nevada. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Kathy Powell and husband Clayton of Beaumont, California, and Chad Norman of Calera, Oklahoma, along with great grandchildren, Michael Powell, Sadie Powell, Elijah Powell, and Casey James Powell, and his sister Arleen McCannon and husband Dale of Bull Head, Arizona, a brother John Kelly and wife Nicky of Surprise, Arizona, and his dear friend Marvin Reynolds, of Durant, Oklahoma.
Preceding Jim in death are his parents James and Kathleen, two brothers William Kelly and Robert Kelly, and a son Daniel Kelly.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021, at the Community Christian Church in Durant, Oklahoma with Rev. Troy Humphrey. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. www.holmescoffeymurray.com
