Dorothy Jean (Ellett) Davison of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born on February 2, 1931, in Durant to Stell and Tressie Pearl (Evans) Ellett. She married John Thomas “J.T.” Davison in Denison, Texas on January 10, 1953.
Dorothy and J.T. graduated from Coleman High School and spent most of their lives in the Coleman area before moving to Durant. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage before his passing in 2020. Dorothy was a loving wife, a caring mother, and a devoted homemaker for her husband and family. Dorothy had children in the Coleman school system for almost 30 years. During that time, she was #1 fan, scorebook keeper for all seven kids in all of their athletic endeavors and, most of all, protector from any wrongs that may have been done to any of them. She was taxi driver to all of her kids, and anyone else’s kids that needed a ride. She was a do-what-you-gotta do kind of person. If a person pulled into her driveway with a smoking engine, she had the fire out before they could say "My car is on fire!"
Memaw, mom, sister, daughter, granddaughter, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, role model, caregiver, second mom. The list goes on and on. Dorothy held all positions that relate to giving love. She and J.T., along with a number of the Coleman elders, were the most giving, humble, thoughtful people who could possibly exist. She provided shelter, food, clothes and would give her last dime to support everyone in her life, as well as anyone in need that she didn’t know. There were no exceptions. She got fulfillment from the love she received from all of the people in her life. She was a rich woman through this love. Above all, her life was defined by being Memaw. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her heart and soul.
Dorothy’s last years were not easy. Fortunately, she was surrounded by the group of angels at Featherstone Assisted Living and Guardian Home Hospice. The family wants to extend their deepest appreciation to these wonderful nurses and caregivers. The grace and love you provided to Dorothy was immeasurable.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and son, Kent Davison; sisters, Muriel Needham and husband Carl, Lois Clifton and husband Kenneth, Joyce Talley and husband John; brothers, Mack Ellett and wife Lorene, and Bill Ellett.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Greg Davison of Milburn, Oklahoma, Diane Haynie and husband John of Kenefic, Oklahoma, Gary Davison and wife Belinda of Caddo, Oklahoma, Grant Davison and wife Tryna of Coleman, Oklahoma, Scott Davison and wife Christine of Durant, Oklahoma, and Kyle Davison and wife Stephanie also of Durant, Oklahoma; special niece Kathy Carpenter and husband Dan of Silo, Oklahoma and great-nephew Steve Anderson of Coleman; grandchildren Whitney Landrum and husband John, Michael Haynie and wife Dr. Jan Hester, Heather Goggans and husband Conor Ryan, Erin Knight, Ryan Davison, Kat Chabani and husband Anas, Kayla Whitmire and husband Jerry, Kristen Davison, Jonathan Davison, Tre Harper, Shayla Harper, Andrew Jones, Laura Wheeler and husband Michael, Josh Davison, and Tyler Shade and fiancé Katelyn Eggleston; 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
